Oh yeah! See, I'm a detective with the LA PD. So helping people in need is just part of what I do!

Oh... That's impressive.

[She says this with sincerity. She's met a few cops before but never a detective. And from LA! That's another impressive bit too.]

Was it nice in LA? I was from Oregon, though I also lived in Seattle for a few years.

Thanks! It's a living, pal. [He's pleased with her compliment. And at this point, it doesn't seem like she's struggling as much, so he doesn't have much of a problem with her talking.]

So you've been way up north! Heh, I'd say LA's nice enough. It can be lousy sometimes. Too noisy, and crime keeps on being a problem... but there's lots of great people, good companies and nice weather there, too!

[She's starting to feel like the talking is helping, actually. If not with her energy issue, then at least in taking her mind off her embarrassment. She's also just genuinely interested in this current conversation.]

And nice beaches? Been a while since I last visited a warm one. Sucks about the crime, though. I guess you get that anywhere, but probably moreso in L.A. just because there's so many people.

Really nice! I don't go to the shore that often, but it's always relaxing. And I've never had to go there on business! [Which basically means there haven't been murders there.]

Yeah, I guess you've got a point, pal. With the number of people, the number of crimes among 'em go up. But I'm not going to let them just do as they please! [He says with confident determination. And as they speak, he nears a safe zone that the plants haven't reached.]

[She notices they're getting closer to a place she can rest more safely, and feels another wave of relief.]

That's good. Beaches should be relaxing. No drug dealers, no beached whales...

[She trails off on that.]

You sound really dedicated to your job. It's nice. I've never really met another cop like that before.

[Considering the ones back in Arcadia Bay took bribes and blackmail.]

[His eyes widen at both of those concerning subjects, as he soldiers on.]

Thanks. But I'm sorry to hear that, pal. All officers should be dedicated to doing the right thing! It's what being part of the police is all about!

[She doesn't seem to want to elaborate on those subjects either, but she smiles at his enthusiasm.]

You're right. I just wish every officer in every small town and big city thought the same way. Did you always want to become a detective?

I sure wish so too. [He says with sincerity as he goes on.]

Pretty much. Ever since I was a kid, when I worked on my own bug detector! I had a few other ideas here and there, but detective ended up being the most realistic!

You did that when you were a kid? That's impressive. I've wanted to be a photographer since I was little.

[She shifts a bit, though it's awkward while she's being carried. At least she feels like she can move some more now.]

Aw shucks. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well enough! [He says sheepishly.] Oh, a photographer, huh? Is that still what you're aiming for?

[And as they talk, he finally enters the safe area and seeks out a couch to set her down on.]

When I was a kid I mostly just made stuff that went "boom," and that's because my best friend was a trouble-maker.

[Max sits up when she's put down on the couch, taking her bag to pull out her retro polaroid-style camera.]

Yes, but I don't know if they sell film for this here. Once I run out I'll probably have to switch to taking pictures with our communication devices.

[Gumshoe takes a seat near the couch to keep an eye on her. He's not sure what to make of the 'booms' that she was involved in, but he does waggle a disapproving finger in jest. As she pulls out the camera, he leans forward slightly to get a better look at it, amused. It's easier to appreciate cameras when they'r being used by people who aren't frustrating him.]

Wow, that's a nice camera you got there! Very... what's the word? Retro! [He pulls back and claps his hands together.]

Anyway, I hope you manage to find yourself some film! Nothing has the same feel as one of those kinds of pictures, pal!

[Her smile is shy but unapologetic in response to the pretend-scold.

Retro, or vintage. [Or hipster, a term used way too much by the people at Blackwell.]

I think so too. The instant polaroid is by far my favorite, but I do like a lot of different photography styles and techniques.

Oh right, that's the other word. [He says with a soft chuckle.]

Well, this can always be a chance to explore those other styles and stuff! And if I ever spot any of that film you're looking for up in these parts, I'll be sure to give you a heads up!
